Welcome to the Deep Blue

Our Mission

The Deep Blue Organization will create sustainable coastal habitats in appropriate locations for whales and dolphins through which we can educate people in regards to the relationship between ocean conservation and the reduction of carbon emissions. The model of our organization and building a coastal habitat is the first model of its kind. We have created this space because we believe that we provide a solution to the marine parks and we look to build strong relationships with them. Our goal is to be the primary organization that will develop the primary solution for marine parks seeking to provide for their whales and dolphins the next transition of their life.

The Superstars of the Ocean

The depletion of wild whale populations has had a dramatic impact on climate change, the supply of wild fish available for human consumption, and ocean sustainability. A whale or dolphin can help curb climate change by absorbing tons of carbon from our atmosphere. By comparison, an average tree will only intake 48 pounds of carbon per year. This helps provide our climate with cleaner air. Much of the planet’s oxygen actually comes from the ocean, which is why it’s sometimes thought of as Earth’s lungs. The whales and dolphins in our care help tell the stories of how whales and dolphins can be an important part of the climate change solution, by sequestering carbon dioxide from the environment and excreting iron and nitrogen, which increase the populations of fish and other marine life. The Need for Coastal Habitats

For a variety of reasons, including new regulations and legislation, financial hardships caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and a desire to shift focus to other animals and attractions, a number of zoos, aquariums and theme parks worldwide are phasing out the exhibition of whales and dolphins. The Deep Blue Organization will provide a long-term sustainable solution through the development of our Coastal Habitats, where whales and dolphins can live out their lives in a sizable natural shoreline environment with 24-hour care.

“Did you know that whales can help restore damaged habitats, and even absorb more carbon than trees? Whales and dolphins are among some of the most iconic species in the Deep Blue Sea. Aside from their intelligence, size, and beauty, they also play an essential role in preserving healthy marine ecosystems.”

Biodiversity and Extinction

Life on Earth first began in the ocean; the marine biodiversity that we marvel at today exists due to billions of years of evolution and chance. In fact, new species are still being discovered, and 80% of the world’s oceans have never been explored. But despite the abundance of life on our planet, we are currently witnessing a mass extinction event caused by human activity. This epoch is referred to by scientists as the Anthropocene. Barring a major geological catastrophe, extinction should be rare, but over 30% of marine mammals are now currently listed as endangered.

Why Whales and Dolphins?

Did you know that whales can help restore damaged habitats, and even absorb more carbon than trees? Whales and dolphins are among some of the most iconic species in the deep blue sea. But aside from their intelligence, size, and beauty, they also play an essential role in preserving healthy marine ecosystems.

Carbon Sequestration

Whales help protect all life on Earth. In part, this is because whale species remove thousands of tons of carbon from circulation by feeding on phytoplankton. To simplify the process, whales capture carbon emissions in their massive bodies, and this “blue carbon” is later transferred to the bottom of the sea at the end of their life cycles. What this ultimately means is that thriving oceans are an essential buffer against extreme climate change.

Take Action

It’s easy to imagine our oceans are endless, or that the environmental crisis we face can wait for future generations to act. But the simple truth is if we hope to preserve a planet rich in biodiversity, the time for action is not in some vague future, but now. Learn more about how you can help protect our oceans today.
